The holiday season has arrived, and it’s time to prepare your home. Make sure your home is safe and secure, and you don’t run the risk of a broken boiler or burst pipes; after that, it’s time to think about the decoration in your home and what you and your family are going to eat.
Boiler Checks
The last thing you want to deal with in the holiday season is a faulty boiler; it’s expensive, inconvenient, and has the potential to ruin your Christmas holidays. Boilers need to be checked once a year, so it makes sense to get this done at the start of winter or the start of December.
Even if you have some DIY skills and some knowledge of boilers, you need to enlist the services of a qualified expert; this is a legal requirement. Having your boiler checked means you can have full confidence in your heating system over the holiday season when you have guests.
Hygge Home
Hygge is a concept that originated in Denmark; it translates roughly as cosy and creates the perfect atmosphere for the winter home. Hygge homes are warm and inviting; they are also cosy, with plenty of blankets, tea, candles, and Carpets from Ph Gammons for cosy spaces.
If you want to make your home even more hygge, consider investing in a wood-burning stove or an ethanol fire. Both of these options give you the hygge feeling, but an ethanol fire is better for the planet. Ethanol is natural gas, but it releases very few toxins into the air, like other gases.
Pipe Insulation
Make sure your pipes are insulated this winter, and you reduce the chances of a burst pipe and a plumber being called out at short notice. Pipes can be insulated very easily; all you need to do is buy some foam tubing from the hardware store and use a Stanley knife to cut a slit down the side.
The foam tubing is wrapped around the pipes and secured using some tie wraps; this can be done by anyone with some basic DIY skills. Another trick to prevent burst pipes in the winter is to leave the water running a trickle through the night or if the temperature suddenly nosedives.
Seasonal Decor
It’s the holiday season, and you will want to decorate your home so that it’s festive and colourful. If you have ever watched a Hallmark movie at Christmas, you will know what the gold standard of decoration is like. Many of the big department stores also take the lead from Hallmark homes.
Hallmark decoration is classical Christmas decoration; think large bows on the tree surrounded by fairy lights, think fairy lights everywhere, and garlands that drape on the walls and feature on the outside doors. Hallmark decoration gives you the perfect decor standard to aim for this year.
Wholesome Food
Don’t forget about the Christmas spread and the wholesome food you and your family can enjoy throughout the winter season. Wholesome food is readily available in the winter because of the number of seasonal root vegetables. Enjoy making soups, stews, casseroles, and lovely pies.
