Every few years, I get to a point where I get bored and fed up with my drab old interior, and I want to add a fresh new look to my home. I think everyone gets this, and sometimes when you’re feeling down or it’s getting to that time of year where you have a slump of enthusiasm, freshening up your home is the best thing you can do.
Whether it’s a fresh lick of paint that you can arrange with painting companies in NC, who can get the job done professionally, and creating a beautiful finish to your walls. Update to some of your old soft furnishings and furniture, either way, we’ve got you covered in this article. We’ll give you a few ways to revitalise and make your home exciting to you again.
Update your carpet
The most prominent surfaces and areas of your rooms will have the most significant impact, so take a look at the flooring as a first step. If you’ve got a carpet already, then consider switching to the hard flooring underneath to mix it up if possible. Already got hard flooring, then go for a more snug and cosy look with a thick and warm carpet over the top, perfect for the incoming winter.
Get new curtains
Window dressings are a perfect way to add a fresh new look to any room without a considerable cost. They’re discrete and subtle in the daytime and can transform your space at night. Opt for ready-made curtains in lesser-used rooms or up the luxury and quality of living rooms and bedrooms by getting made to measure curtains in your perfect fabric and lining type. TheSnug offers a vast range that can all be coupled with same-fabric cushions or items too if you’re looking to tie in different areas of your room (see below!). Curtains come with the added benefit of keeping either the cold and draughts away in winter or the direct sunlight and heat out in summer too!
Get new cushions and throws.
Cushions are a simple and effective choice when you don’t want to go overboard on cost. Get cushion covers that match other elements in a room, or go bold and bring patterns and bright colours to an otherwise dull interior setting. There’s nothing better and more cost-effective to brighten up and change a dreary old living room than to pick out some bright new cushions. With cushions typically coming in set sizes, you might not even have to change the inner pad if you’re looking to save a few pennies in the process.
Paint your walls
Like flooring, this is another big surface and potentially a high impact area to play with and bring a unique style into a room. You can get paint at a great price and in a wide array of colours, so the possibilities are endless. Go subtle with any colour changes here though, small changes in the shade can significantly impact and transform a space for the better or worse!
Wallpaper
Depending on how brave your design choices are, wallpaper can be an interior designer’s favourite when it comes to transforming an old room. Like paint, you can drastically change a space, but you get the added benefit of texturing too. If your room is full of flat and solid colours, then textured wallpaper in any colour can make a huge difference for the better. Be careful when going for any bold designs and patterns here, designer wallpaper can get costly, and it’s a real rabbit hole of beautiful choices once you start looking! Set your budget beforehand, and stick to it!
Lighting
Lighting is a huge subject in itself and probably one for its own article at some point, and it’s been left until last for a reason. Although lighting is the most effective and can be more economical than many other options, it does need a lot of research and experimentation to get right. If you’re looking to go down this route, then start with corner lamps and unique lamp shade styles and branch out later. Lighting that can be moved around easily can be a smart option when learning about the different moods lighting can bring to your room!
Colour combinations and textures.
You only have to flick through an interior design or home magazine to realise the options available to you, so we recommend doing just that. Pick up your favourite magazine, or look through Pinterest for inspiration and go with the ideas that fit your lifestyle and design personality best.
Be bold with textures and bright colours if you’re looking to brighten up a dull room, or add differing textures if you want a more monochrome but still stylish feel. Take inspiration from others, and have fun!
